Welcome. I’m happy to see you here.

Sean Quinn

Therapist

I am Sean,  Therapist and Presenter in Adelaide.

Originally from Ireland and now based in Adelaide. Moving to Australia was a significant change in my own life — one that involved adapting to a new culture, building community from scratch, and learning how to hold on to what matters while adjusting to something new.

I’m now a father of two young children, which has deepened my appreciation for balance, patience, and the realities of everyday stress. Outside of therapy, I have a strong interest in language and culture, particularly Irish language and identity, and I value how words shape the way we understand ourselves and others.

Alongside my clinical work, I also perform as a stand-up comedian. While that might seem unexpected, it’s taught me a lot about vulnerability, resilience, and showing up in uncertain moments. I bring that same grounded presence into my therapeutic work — taking the work seriously, but not myself too seriously.

Are you Qualified?

Yes — and I take that responsibility seriously.

I originally trained as a social worker in the UK, where I worked across intellectual disability and forensic services, supporting people with complex needs and challenging life histories. After moving to Australia, I continued working in forensic and specialist services, developing experience in structured therapeutic work, supervision, and adapted programs for people involved in the justice system, including DBT-informed approaches.

I later completed a Master of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy at Flinders University, alongside extensive guided clinical supervision. During this time, I worked closely with multidisciplinary psychiatry and psychology teams through Flinders Psychological Therapy Service and Statewide Gambling Therapy Service, contributing to both clinical work and service development.

Since then, I’ve developed particular expertise in trauma-focused work, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and I regularly provide and receive supervision to ensure my practice remains ethical, reflective, and evidence-based.

I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW), which allows eligible clients to access Medicare-rebated sessions with a GP Mental Health Care Plan.

My Approach

My approach is collaborative and grounded. I focus on understanding what’s going on beneath the surface and working together to find practical ways forward that fit real life, rather than offering quick fixes or rigid formulas.

Having lived and worked in both Ireland, England and Australia, I understand the local context and the pressures people face here, while also appreciating how experiences of change, identity, and adjustment can shape mental health. These experiences inform how I sit with people in therapy, with curiosity, honesty, and respect for the complexity of real life.

Not Sure Where to Start?

Choosing a therapist can feel daunting. A short initial chat can help you get a sense of how I work and whether it feels like a good match.

Working With Professionals and Teams

Alongside individual counselling, I also work with mental health professionals and organisations through supervision, training, and wellbeing programs. These sessions are practical, reflective, and tailored to the real pressures people face in their work.
